GGO17 - Day 2

Now back to my regular programming: game development updates. If you are subscribed to the RSS feed prepare for daily updates for the rest of this month, because the Github GameOff 2017 started last night!

Theme: Throwback

The theme announced at 23:37 last night (local time) is throwback! As my cousin observed it’s a nice open theme, but I suspect most people will do the obvious thing, so this jam is likely to be remake central… Be prepared to see a lot of CGA style graphics like the banner at the top of this page!

The Plan

I’ll be working with my cousin this year, so the odds of us delivering something by the end the month should be much higher (being in the habit of spending an hour a night on game development now should also help me be consistently productive). The project I’m on at work is entering pilot go-live this month, so work might interfere, but we’ll just have to see how that goes…

I’ve been waiting for an excuse to remake Paratrooper for about a decade and Sas is keen, so that’s what I’m starting to build tonight. According to Wikipedia: “In 1984 Softline readers named Paratrooper the worst IBM program of 1983.” - hopefully we can do a bit better with our remake.

The plan is to start with a straight remake for the rest of this week, then we’ll have a proper planning session on Sunday to see where we take it from there.

Good luck to everyone that’s participating this year!
